You're absolutely right Markus. This is the quintessential winter picture, at least for Southern Portugal.

An orange filter over that sky would probably make this picture more dramatic though...that's the way we did it in my day.

Drew, color filters tend to be forgotten nowadays, as digital post-processing can usually get the job done. On the other hand, I tend to keep post-processing to a minimum: cropping and tone curve adjustment, that's all. In this particular image I did play a little with the curve, but there wasn't much I could do with that monochrome overcast sky. Would an orange filter get a better effect? I'm not sure, but I actually found that the grayish tone of the whole photo was quite becoming for that location at that time of the year.
