Light and shadow

An usual challenge in photography is the proper balance between light and shadows, when one wants to preserve the highlights or avoid loosing detail in the dark areas. The dynamic range of the camera's sensor may play an important role in this, but being able to choose the best time for the shot is also a big help. The photo below was taken in a Winter morning, a time when the sunlight is not too intense.
