Eric Pillot

Last issue of "RĂ©ponses Photo" had an article on Eric Pillot's work "In Situ". That's a beautiful exercise on square format composition and colour. The kind of thing I would like to have done!

1400 years old

This olive tree is 1400 years old. Yes, It has been alive on this planet for 1400 years! Despite having been heavily pruned, it still generates new branches every year.

Olive trees are extraordinarily resilient and can regrow as long as the root system is preserved. A few specimens around the world are known to be over 2000 years old (by carbon dating).

1000 years from now, someone will take a photo (or whatever image capturing technology will be used then) of this tree and post it on the Spacenet with the title "2400 years old". That's assuming humankind will still be around by then, of course. The tree will, I'm sure.
