High moon

Pentax K10D + Zeiss Distagon 25/2.8

Not much of a moon, really. Just a little white dot in the twilight sky.
Maybe it's not even really the moon at all, but just a white disk I pasted in some photo editor, centering it perfectly in the frame so as to get a nicer composition...
Does it really matter, though?

Phillip Toledano

It does not matter whether it is a dubious use of private moments for commercial purposes (a book is available for sale). Phillip Toledano's project Days with my father is a beautiful exercise in photography. It is worth going through all the photos, all the way to the end. My favorite is number 19.

Sheep

My father-in-law raises sheep. That's his retirement hobby. Last time we visited there were a few youngsters playing around. How could I resist? Since we were in a very shadowy area, I set the ISO to 400 and the aperture to f/2. The results were nice, for the photos that were actually in focus... Manual focusing can definitely be a pain with young subjects.

The kids enjoy giving names to the baby sheep. About a year later, when some of them eventually get to the dinner table, we are always a bit nervous: one of the kids might realize that food was once a fluffy little friend.

Valentine's Day Special

Pentax K10D + Zeiss Planar 50/1.4

This photo was taken through a restaurant window. What I like about it is that there are so many pairs in it. Of people and things. Take a look.

Composition: keep it simple, they say (III)

This is it! The refined Zen simplicity of a minimalist composition:

Pentax K10D + Zeiss Planar 50/1.4

A bit boring, you might say. But simple, that's for sure.

If you ask me, the "not so simple" photo in the first post of this series is my favorite. It is not such a neat composition, but there is a lot more to discover in there.

Composition: keep it simple, they say (II)

Ahhh... that's better.

Composition: keep it simple, they say

There is this rule in photography (landscape or otherwise) that says one should keep the image as simple as possible. It is easier to structure the composition when there are only a few key elements to combine and the background is simple and clean. The final result is neat and easily comprehended and appreciated by the viewers.

Some times I wish I lived near a desert...
